Why Earn a Master's Degree in Elementary Education?

As the premier teacher-training institution in Maryland, Towson University has a long tradition of preparing classroom teachers, education specialists and school leaders. The Master of Education in elementary education program can help you, the experienced teacher, broaden your expertise and prepare for future leadership roles in the profession. As school systems nationwide struggle to find qualified elementary school teachers and administrators, your Towson degree will position you to take full advantage of growing opportunities in the field.

Build Your Knowledge Base

Through the Master of Education in elementary education (M.Ed. ELED) program, you develop advanced competencies in curriculum development, evaluation and instructional design. As you engage in scholarly activities, you gain a broader understanding of the diverse nature of learners and society and discover ways to use technology to enhance learning. You will keep pace with increased calls for accountability as you learn to use appropriate assessment and evaluation tools. Develop your critical thinking skills as they apply to the educational process and professional practice. Choose either a field-based seminar project or a thesis option to complete your program. The goals of the 33-unit program are based on MSDE professional development standards and core propositions endorsed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

A Committed, Dedicated Faculty

Faculty members are recognized for their contributions to the field and participate in the academic community as teachers, scholars and advisers. They understand the challenges of teachers who work full time as they pursue advanced degrees, and they try to accommodate your busy schedules.
