Music Performance/Composition Degree (M.Mus)

Degree Requirements

    Acceptable scores on the theory and music history advisory examinations. Students who do not meet minimal requirements may be required to enroll in prescribed courses.

    Required credits (21 units)

    1. Private Lessons (12 units) (from student's major area)
    2. MUSC 685 Bibliography and Research (3)
    3. MUSC 631 - Advanced Theory (3)
    4. Ensembles (2 units)
      Selected, with approval, from Music Applied (MUSA) Ensembles (1) listed in the Course Descriptions section of this catalog.
    5. Recital (1 credit)
      MUSC 797 - Graduate Recital (1)
    Electives (10 units)

      Selected with approval from any 500- to 800-level music courses. A maximum of 4 of the elective units may be taken in lessons and/or ensembles.

      Performance master students without doc- umented experience in pedagogy must take MUSC 542 (Vocal Pedagogy), MUSC 543 (Instrumental Pedagogy), MUSC 560 (Piano Pedagogy), or MUSC 562 (Guitar Pedagogy) as appropriate.

    Exit Requirements

    Students must satisfactorily complete the comprehensive oral examination and a recital research paper.
